Dermatology : Zero dermatologists in public hospitals in the North

This is the substance of a survey conducted in the North, Far North and Adamaoua regions and published on the “Data Cameroon” website.

It is the health specialty that deals with diseases of the skin, mucous membranes (mouth and genitals) and phanera (nails, hair): dermatology.
In a broader sense, it also encompasses the prevention and treatment of skin cancers and sexually transmitted diseases. In this field, those who practice are called dermatologists. Some are even dermatologists. Only, these are almost absent in the public health facilities in the North. That is: the Far North, the North and Adamaoua.
This information was revealed in a survey published on the Facebook account “Haman Cameroon official” on 25 April 2023. Subsequently,
the information was confirmed by the regional delegations of public health of the different regions mentioned, and the vice-president of the Cameroonian Society of Dermatology, Dr Patrice Meledje Ndjong, in a recent publication of the online newspaper “Data Cameroon”. Moreover, the regional public health delegate for the Far North had confided to the online newspaper that “there is no dermatologist.
Most dermatological diseases do not have any signs of seriousness. They are therefore easily treated here. We don’t have any major concerns about dermatology, because most hospital practitioners have the minimum knowledge. The cases of dermatology that we have here are mucous membranes, ringworm…if it is cancer, we refer them to a dermatologist in Yaounde,” Dr Baba told this site. Treatment of dark circles
It should be mentioned that several diseases fall within the scope of dermatology. Among these, we note alopecia (hair loss); scabies; atopic dermatitis; angiomas; carcinomas; actinic keratoses… To this effect, the dermatologist is able to propose several treatments to his subject. We can therefore mention the treatment of the mouth and lips, the treatment of dark circles, rejuvenation by laser treatment, volumetry and restructuring of the face etc…
