The danger of self-medicationThe medication

Dr Patrick Ngou, a paediatrician, following the deaths caused by Naturcold syrup in the NOSO, published an article on social networks, notably Facebook and WhatsApp. In this post, he sensitizes the population on the dangers of self-medication.

How can a child die by taking a syrup that is supposed to protect
them? I conducted
a hospital study in 2011 on 630 children seen in emergency rooms. This study showed that 50% of parents use self-medication
as a first line of defence for their children. In this group the mortality was 20 times higher than that of children who came directly to the hospital. So the parent gets up on his own, goes to the pharmacy or the post, leaves the child at home, goes to explain the symptoms there and brings the medicine (poison) home and gives it to that child, without even reading the instructions.
Dear parents I give you my hands. That ohhh in the hospital
you are expensive and you only prescribe the tests, you are crooks. And when you drag on, we at the hospital, facing your pain, can’t even tell you your 4 truths, otherwise we’ll be taken for the stress of the story. It’s time someone took courage and told you your truths. You also have your responsibility.
When the Ministry of Health wants to tackle street drugs you say ohhh it’s the fathers of the children who work there, they too are people’s children. But when the worst happens nobody
has the presence of mind to ask where the medicine was bought. When the Ministry of Health wants to involve the town halls and the CTDs, it’s the same speech. That ohhh it’s always the big ones who make it their business. Can we even talk to you? The control of the drug circuit,
let’s not lie to you anymore, depends more on the CTDs now than on the Ministry of Health. What is surprising is that the fans will get indignant and keep going to the post. Even if the CSU works there will still be hard headed people who will go to the post and self-medicate. Yes, they have it under control.
I am a simple peripheral pediatrician
who wants the best for the Cameroonian child and who believes deeply in this health system.
I am convinced that things are easy to change if we all get involved. This is why my slogan is “HEALTH BY ALL”. We are all actors of our own health. Street medicine kills. Self-medication kills and children pay a heavy price for this burden. If you fight for humanity you can be sure you’ll never go wrong.
