The price of the drug is reduced from 50,000 to 25,000 FCFA, a reduction of 50%. This reduction is intended to make medicines for the treatment
of viral hepatitis C more accessible.
The Minister urged the staff of the approved treatment centres and dispensing centres for the management of viral hepatitis
as well as all the staff of the health pyramid involved in the fight against viral hepatitis to ensure that the greatest number of patients can benefit from this reduction.
As a reminder, viral hepatitis C is a public health problem that affects nearly 1.3% of the Cameroonian population. As for hepatitis
B, it has a prevalence rate of 8.3% for people aged between 15 and 59 years. These statistics are contained in the CAMPHIA 2017 survey (Cameroon population-based HIV impact assessment).
