The stakeholders involved decided to find a consensus so as not to escalate this matter which had already taken another turn.
Peace, appeasement. These are the words used by Dr. Gaël Ngengue Plong, Director of the Logbaba district hospital, to justify the non-pursuit of the case of the death of the triplets involving his health facility.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Dr. Gaël Ngnegue Plong, Maëva Nguenga Kameni, the mother of the triplets, and her partner, met for an amicable settlement. The various parties decided to follow the path of appeasement. They also, we learned, signed letters of total disengagement in this matter.
For those arrested in connection with this scandal, the hospital director decided to withdraw charges against some people who had been incarcerated for several days and transferred to the Ndokoti prosecutor’s office. “These people were released that same Wednesday,” the Director of the Logbaba district hospital confirmed to us.
According to our colleague from La Plume de l’aigle, the children’s mother has also promised to no longer speak out on this affair which pits her against the Logbaba district hospital. “…neither on social networks, nor through civil society organisations, nor by mandating anyone to do so“. In his capacity as “as the surrogate mother of this pregnancy, I declare that I definitively and unconditionally renounce any legal proceedings or other legal action against the Logbaba District Hospital” She continues in this document which the eagle’s pen was able to consult that: “I make this commitment freely, voluntarily and independently, and express my total and definitive withdrawal. Made in full awareness and knowledge of the facts, this document is written to serve and assert what is legally“.
On January 23, 2024, the Logbaba district hospital was the scene of an unpleasant scene. The death of the 25-week-old triplets did not leave the population of Douala indifferent. This upsetting situation for many people and for the mother and the hospital in particular certainly leaves a bitter taste. A week after this incident, peace seems to be returning between the different parties.
However, on the side of the National Order of Physicians of Cameroon (ONMC), an investigation is opened. In a press release signed on January 26, 2025, Dr. Rodolphe Fonkoua, President of the ONMC indicates that the objective of this investigation is to establish responsibilities and sanction any failure in medical care.
