Faculty of Medicine, University of Yaoundé I Prof NGO UM MEKA Esther Juliette, installed in her functions
The Rector of the University of Yaoundé 1, Prof Rémy Magloire Dieudonné ETOUA, presided over the official installation ceremony of the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (FMSB) of the University of Yaoundé 1, on 15 July 2024.
The President of the Cameroon Society of Senology and Mammary Pathology is a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics. Professor NGO UM is also active in scientific research, with 68 scientific publications to her credit. Her areas of research include adolescent reproductive health, complications of pregnancy and childbirth, and gynaecological and breast cancers.
This appointment as Dean of the FMSB testifies to Professor NGO UM’s dedication, expertise and leadership in the field of medicine and education. Her experience and skills will be invaluable assets for the faculty and will contribute to the training of future health professionals in Cameroon.
The installation of the newly promoted students at the University of Yaoundé 1, which took place on 15 July 2024, was marked by a good atmosphere. The installation of the new graduates of the University of Yaoundé 1 was a time of great emotion for the family members present. Proud of the success of their wives and husbands, they could not contain their joy during the ceremony. Shouts, applause and tears of happiness punctuated the installation speeches. For many, it was the culmination of long sacrifices made to ensure their children received a quality education.
It was also the hope of seeing their children succeed in life and contribute to the development of Cameroon. The cries of joy were also a sign of encouragement for the new graduates. They reminded them of the unfailing support of their families and encouraged them to persevere in their studies. “The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Yaoundé 1 is a huge machine. The challenge of well-trained doctors must be met”. “We are going to give the best of ourselves, my team and I, so that Cameroonians are satisfied with the doctors who graduate from the Faculty of Medicine”, explains Professor NGO UM, wife of MEKA Esther Juliette.
On 10 July 2024, the President of the Republic of Cameroon, Paul Biya, signed a presidential decree appointing NGO UM wife MEKA Esther Juliette as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (FMSB) at the University of Yaoundé 1. Professor Rémy Magloire Dieudonné ETOUA, Rector of the University of Yaoundé 1, presided over the official installation ceremony of the new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (FMSB) at the University of Yaoundé 1 on 15 July 2024. This appointment marks a new stage in her brilliant career. “It’s a great deal of emotion and gratitude, above all. I am grateful to the Head of State for entrusting me with this important task, to the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, through whom the decree was issued, and to my superiors. “I give thanks to God for inspiring my superiors,” says the new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Yaoundé 1.
The Rector, Prof. ETOUA Rémy Magloire Dieudonné, delivered a speech in which he called for unity and hard work to make the University of Yaoundé 1 a university of excellence. “We know that it’s a tough job and that it won’t all be done with a wave of a magic wand. However, I remain convinced that only by combining your efforts will we be able to act much more effectively. “We must rebuild this place of trust with our students as a priority, every day and through actions that listen to them and resolve their problems, because that is the raison d’être of the university”, declared Prof. ETOUA Rémy Magloire Dieudonné.
Professor NGO UM, 49, is a renowned specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics. She obtained her state doctorate in medicine from the University of Yaoundé 1 in 2002 and continued her training in France and Belgium, obtaining several diplomas and certificates in gynaecology, obstetrics and senology. She also holds a diploma from the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) and has been made a Knight of the Order of Valour. Her professional career is just as impressive. Professor NGO UM is also active in scientific research, with 68 scientific publications to her name.
Her areas of research include adolescent reproductive health, complications of pregnancy and childbirth, and gynaecological and breast cancers. She is also President of the Cameroon Senology and Breast Pathology Society. Her appointment as Dean of the FMSB is a testament to Professor NGO UM’s dedication, expertise and leadership in the field of medicine and education. Her experience and skills will be invaluable assets to the faculty and will contribute to the training of future health professionals in Cameroon. It is hoped that she will enable the faculty to meet the many challenges it faces and become a centre of excellence for training and research in medicine and the biomedical sciences.
