Death of Lieutenant-Colonel Djaoyang Djorwé: A field leader leaves us

Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Djaoyang Djorwé, commander of the 40th Cameroon Fire Brigade, tragically lost his life following a stroke on February 3, 2025 in Yaoundé. After two days of treatment at the Maroua Regional Hospital, the soldier was transferred on oxygen to the capital, where his health deteriorated rapidly, taking this public security soldier in the prime of life. 

Coming from an exemplary career marked by an unwavering sense of duty and field leadership, Lieutenant-Colonel Djaoyang Djorwé was a key figure in the Far North, a region where his unwavering commitment to the security of populations and the protection of human lives had earned him unanimous respect, both among his peers and the citizens he served. An elite officer recognized for his professionalism, rigor and integrity, he was a model of discipline and humility within the Cameroonian armed forces.

Born from a brilliant career and excellent training, Lieutenant-Colonel Djaoyang Djorwé completed his initial training as a firefighter officer in 2008 at the Paris Fire Brigade. He was then assigned as an instructor at the National Firefighter Training Center, before rising through the ranks, becoming Director of Training. Holder of a Physical Education and Sports Teacher Diploma, he also continued his training at the National School of Active Officers in Thiès, Senegal, where he joined the “Captain Boniface SAMBA DIONE” class.

In 2017, he obtained his Certificate of Aptitude for the Functions of Commander of Rescue Operations in Burkina Faso, consolidating his skills in the field of prevention and management of rescue operations. Since February 2018, he has been at the head of the 40th Fire Brigade Group, where his expertise and charisma had made him a true corps leader. Both a strategist and a man of the field, he knew how to combine the theory of the general staff with the demands of the field, always at the service of his men and the security of the nation.

His passing leaves a huge void in the ranks of Cameroonian firefighters and among all those who had the privilege of serving under his command. A man of rigor and principles, Lieutenant-Colonel Djaoyang Djorwé embodied excellence in his profession, and his memory will live on through the values ​​he transmitted to his subordinates.

In a country that owes him a large part of the security of its citizens, Cameroon mourns a devoted servant, an honest officer, a respected leader, and a deeply human man. His funeral and tribute will be an opportunity to pay tribute to a daily fighter, whose dedication and love of his profession will remain forever engraved in the annals of the history of the country’s security forces.

The 40th Fire Brigade Group, as well as the entire Cameroonian community, will remember this man of duty who sacrificed his life for the well-being of his compatriots. Cameroon mourns his departure, but his legacy continues to guide and inspire future generations of firefighter officers.
