US-Cameroon cooperation : A donation of medical equipment to strengthen health surveillance
Cameroon has just received a major donation of medical equipment from the United States. This aid, worth more than 63 million FCFA, was handed over to the National Public Health Laboratory (LNSP) during an official ceremony chaired by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Malachie Manaouda.
This donation, consisting mainly of personal protective equipment and laboratory equipment, will enable the LNSP to significantly improve its diagnostic and response capabilities to health threats. It is part of a long-standing partnership between the two countries, aimed at strengthening the Cameroonian health system.
The U.S. Ambassador to Cameroon stressed the importance of this partnership for both countries. This donation, funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), demonstrates the United States’ commitment to supporting Cameroon in the fight against emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, such as Mpox, cholera, and whooping cough.
The LNSP plays a crucial role in epidemiological surveillance in Cameroon. With this new equipment, the laboratory will be better equipped to quickly detect epidemics and respond effectively. This capacity building is all the more important in a context marked by the emergence of new infectious diseases.
The Minister of Public Health welcomed this gesture of solidarity from the United States and stressed the importance of this equipment for protecting the health of Cameroonians. He also called on stakeholders in the health system to make good use of these resources.
