German Cooperation Hails Impact of Health Projects in Maroua 2 : Tangible Investment for Founangué Medical Center
The Founangué District Medical Center, located in the Maroua 2 Commune, hosted a high-level visit on Friday, October 18, 2024. The Head of German Cooperation in Cameroon, Knut Gummert, accompanied by his colleagues, visited the center to assess the impact of German-funded projects in the health sector, particularly family planning and health insurance.
Augustin Fanday Beybey, Director of the Founangué Medical Center: “We appreciate the unwavering support of our partners, who constantly provide us with advice and assistance, making available the necessary materials for the implementation of health insurance and family planning. We encounter some difficulties: recurrent stockouts of essential medicines, health insurance cards that are not always available, and the biggest problem that undermines our health facilities is the delay in reimbursing services. This difficulty hinders our ability to provide essential medical supplies, office and computer equipment for our staff to work effectively, especially in the context of health insurance. We thank the Head of German Cooperation for reassuring us of his continued support to improve our services.”
The German officials were able to familiarize themselves with the health programs implemented in the area and understand how German Cooperation’s funding contributes to improving healthcare for local populations. The focus was on family planning and health insurance projects, which have significantly improved the reproductive health of women and couples in the area. The health insurance, in particular, was praised as a valuable tool for low-income populations, allowing them to access medical care without incurring exorbitant costs.
“We are in Maroua to visit this health center, to appreciate our cooperation, to improve maternal and child health. We spoke with the Director, our doctor, and partner to gain a better understanding of what we do and the importance of our cooperation to improve the health of mothers, young women, and how we can raise awareness among the population about family planning and the importance of going to the hospital for childbirth. I appreciate the cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health of Cameroon,” said Knut Gummert during his visit.
The visit of the German Cooperation to the Founangué Medical Center highlighted the impact of German-funded health projects in the Far North region. It also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the commitment of German Cooperation to supporting the development of the Cameroonian health system and improving the well-being of the population.
