University Games 2023 : The University of Buea dreams big

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Horace Ngomo Manga, is keeping a close eye on the team’s performance so that at the end of the competition, the University of Buea will honour the South West region with a place on the podium.

With eight days to go before the start of the 23rd edition of the Ngaoundere
University Games, 2023, preparations are well underway in the state universities and private
higher education institutes. At the University of Buea, the fever
of preparations is rising. This university institution intends to go with the firm ambition to do better than the 9th place occupied
the previous edition at the University of Dschang in 2019. The Cop’s of the University of Buea fan club are honing their vocal chords and choreography. The group is aiming for the podium
in the fan club competition at the university games. Not far away, the handball and football teams are getting their act together.
“My name is Dalida, I am a handball player for the University of Buea team. We are not preparing
badly, we train from Monday to Saturday, from 1pm to 5pm. We are ready for the university games,” says the handball player. The individual sports are not left out.
We catch the judokas in the middle of a training session. For this edition, the University of Buea will be present on all fronts, representing the dozen disciplines in question. Richard Mengue II, head of sports department
of the University of Buea. “Our athletes are mentally ready, because the conditions in which they work, others do not have them in quotes. They are stronger than the others,” he explains.
