In consultation with the Minister of Public Health on 20 April 2023, the Catholic bishops requested a subsidy for the supply of medicines to faith-based health institutions.

Commission for Health, and the Bishops of Yagoua, Bamenda, represented the Catholic Church at the audience. According to the men of God, since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the health structures under their jurisdiction
have experienced serious difficulties in the availability of medical products. Another point raised at the meeting was the government’s delay in responding to requests for the opening of new health facilities initiated by religious authorities. Other concerns raised included delays in the opening of new health facilities and the request for equipment for the new health centre in the Lebialem department,
South West region.
After listening, the Minister of Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie assured the Bishops that his ministry will look into their difficulties
“I have a high regard for faith-based health institutions. That is why I will not hesitate to find favourable solutions to the various problems posed. I would like to seize this opportunity to appeal to all members of the Cameroonian clergy to begin the process of sensitisation in the health institutions under your authority, in favour of the implementation of phase 1 of the universal health coverage”. This audience underlines the importance of cooperation between the government and the Cameroonian clergy to solve public health problems. Both parties are working together to ensure the availability
of medicines and equipment, improve access to health care and implement initiatives
such as universal health coverage
