The President of the Cameroon Human Rights Commission (CDHC), Professor James Mouangue Kobila and His Excellency Barry Lowen, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Cameroon, met on February 16, 2024, among others, on their collaboration for the protection of human rights.

This meeting to establish contact between the two personalities made it possible to revisit all the contours of bilateral cooperation between the CDHC and the United Kingdom. During the discussions, the desire to strengthen and develop the already fruitful partnership that exists between the United Kingdom and the CDHC emerged.

More concretely, the partnership is articulated in several sectors of activity with regard to human rights, including the improvement of mechanisms for promoting human rights in Cameroon. He left very satisfied, after a particularly rich discussion with the president of the CDHC. His Excellency Barry Lowen, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom to Cameroon, thanked Professor James Mouangue Kobila, President of the CDHC for his very warm welcome. “We discussed the importance of respecting human rights; we particularly considered improving mechanisms for promoting human rights. » The Commission has a very important role in promoting the protection of human rights. This question is essential in any country,” explained the diplomat at the end of the audience which lasted from 11:05 a.m. to 12:35 p.m.

And to conclude: “We will continue to share our expertise and experiences to support the Commission in its mission of promoting and protecting human rights.”Prior to his appointment to Cameroon, HE Barry-Robert Lowen had served as UK Ambassador to Algeria from 2017 to 2020 and to Mali from 2021 to 2022. Until his appointment as head of the British High Commission in our country, the diplomat officiated at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO).
